Design’In/Pays de la Loire to showcase region’s creativity at 100% Design
The 100% Design London trade show, to be held in late September 2009, will give the Pays de la Loire, in partnership with the French Trade Commission and promotional body VIA, the opportunity to raise the profile of seven participating companies based in the region. Under the Design’In /Pays de la Loire label, designers and creators will be able to deepen their knowledge of the market; meet purchasing managers and decision-makers in the field; and strengthen their business relations across the board. Pays de la Loire, in partnership with the French Trade Commission and French organisation VIA (Valorisation of Innovation in Home Furnishing), will showcase bespoke companies designing and manufacturing their products in the region. Members of the press are invited to a cocktail party to meet the designers and Gerard Laizé, who will be in charge of the dedicated 100% France Pavilion at the trade show, from 6:00pm onwards on 24 September 2009 (Stand # K30/French Pavilion). The business component of the programme focuses on innovation and its benefits to companies’ competitiveness. In 2009, a total of 10 projects were chosen. BlueRing, for example, is a new concept for enabling and extending shipping capacity and port installations, which frees up space thanks to a patented process involving the vertical juxtaposition of infrastructures. The research and training component stems from the notion that experimentation requires long-term reflection — be it academic or applied — and training courses address a diversity of design approaches. The general-public component relates to design becoming an event, which can question our very ways of living. In 2009, this third aspect of the programme has resulted in a range of exciting events taking place in Pays de la Loire. For example, the Living in 2050 exhibition, co-hosted by the Pompidou Centre (the contemporary-art centre in Paris) and the Ecole Supérieure du Bois (the woodworking college of Nantes), will be held in October 2009. Through this partnership, the aim is to mobilise the woodworking community and bring new life to the available stocks of maritime pine.
